GYRE ENSEMBLE

A 'gyre' is a spiral or a vortex. In our ensemble we find this is an accurate way to describe what happens to sound as it is transferred between body-wind (Saxophone), machine-wind (Accordion) and cloud (percussion). Our purpose as a group is to develop new pieces and concepts for this unfrequented instrumentation. Our goal as humans who each come from different parts of the world - Germany, Spain, United States - is to collaborate and engage with composers and audiences in all of these regions. While we find ourselves in Basel at the time, we like to think of Gyre Ensemble as being transitory and baseless with possibilities stemming in every direction.
